Four Basic SEO Techniques to Start Using On Your Solopreneur Website Now

It's important to do SEO, but many solopreneurs don't know where to start. Here are four actionable items to boost your SEO so you can get more traffic and leads to your solopreneur website!

  1. Pick your keywords

The first step is to find what to rank for. Google.com/adwords has a great keyword planner tool to help you get started. First go to Adwords and sign up if you need to. Next go to the keyword planner tool and search for a new group of phrases. Put in a few keywords you think your target market is searching for and put in your URL of your current website. It will scrape it and use that to figure out what is good for you.

Once complete, download your list and then go through and pick out top 30 keyword phrases that are a little longer. You won’t rank for “Search Engine Optimization” but you can rank for “Why did my Google Rankings Drop”. Pick some that are longer and have 50-500 monthly searches.

  1. Write content specific for these phrases

Once you have your keywords write a 1,000 word blog for each of them and make the header of the blog that phrase. For instance, here is a blog that is on the 2nd page for that phrase. Make your blogs have headers to break up the content and be informative.

Do not stuff the keywords in your blog posts. Use your keyword phrase one time in the first 200 words and link to some other good web pages. 2-3 should be fine, Google doesn’t like people hording all of the hyperlinks.

  1. Get authority to these blogs

Now that you have a blog it will rank for that phrase somewhere between pages 1 to 100,000 in Google. To get it in the top five rankings you have to build authority to it. The best way is to interlink to the blog from your homepage or if you have a blog on your navigation bar that should be sufficient.

Are there places on your Service pages or other pages that can link to your blog? Once you interlink to it the best you can with your webpages, we need other webpages to link to it as well.

I love content promotion. To me it is more effective than backlinks, so I like to use tools like Pitchbox or SEO Power Suite to send emails promoting my content. You can also use justreachout.io. Basically tell people about your content and hopefully some will link to it, share it on their social channels, etc. Also, make sure to share your content on your social channels and promote them with the advertising tools.

  1. Build yourself as the authority

The last thing to do is build yourself as the authority in your industry. Google search for your industry keywords plus the words blog, write for us, guest post, etc… For instance, mine is Search Engine Optimization Blog.

Build a list of these places and then email the content editors and ask to submit content for their site. The more quality articles you get featured, the more Google will value your company name and domain if the links point back to your site.
